TELUS Digital India Revitalises 78-Year-Old School, Launches Digital Safety Programme

TELUS Digital India brings together 750+ volunteers to revitalise a 78-year-old Greater Noida school, improve facilities for 1,000+ students and launch TELUS Wise, a digital safety initiative for young people.

Over 750 TELUS Digital India team member volunteers joined hands to revitalise the 78-year-old government-aided Shri Gandhi Inter College in Greater Noida, transforming learning spaces for more than 1,000 students while introducing a digital literacy programme to promote online safety and responsible internet use.

The initiative was organised as part of TELUS Digital India’s signature TELUS Days of Giving (TDOG) programme and took place during the United Nations’ International Year of Volunteers for Sustainable Development, observed throughout 2026.

The volunteer-driven initiative focused on improving the school’s infrastructure, creating more welcoming educational spaces and strengthening students’ access to learning resources.

As part of the school revitalisation effort, volunteers painted murals across 25 classrooms and six hallways spread across six school buildings. The initiative also included whitewashing and painting 250 sitting benches to improve the appearance of the school’s learning spaces.

Ahead of the volunteer day, skilled professionals carried out essential repairs and infrastructure improvements, including painting, washroom renovations and waterproofing of nine classroom ceilings. Five science laboratories and the school library were also repainted.

The improvements were aimed at making the school’s learning environment more vibrant, welcoming and better equipped to meet students’ needs.

TELUS Digital India also contributed to the installation of a 10 KW off-grid solar system and donated 30 laptops for the computer laboratories, a new water cooler and sports equipment for the school’s more than 1,000 students.

Commenting on the initiative, Rajiv M. Dhand, Senior Vice President, Global Customer Experience and Trust & Safety Operations, said a supportive learning environment plays an important role in shaping students’ educational experiences and aspirations.

“At Shri Gandhi Inter College, we wanted to help create spaces that inspire curiosity and give students access to resources that support their learning. By bringing together practical improvements and essential educational resources, we hope to contribute to an environment where students feel encouraged to learn, explore and realise their potential,” Dhand said.

Alongside the improvements to the school’s physical infrastructure, TELUS Digital India also launched TELUS Wise in India, a volunteer-led programme focused on helping young people stay safe, secure and responsible online.

The programme aims to build awareness of online safety, digital security and responsible digital behaviour. Through the initiative, students are encouraged to recognise online risks, make informed decisions and develop safer digital habits as they navigate an increasingly digital world.

Kapil Uniyal, Vice President, APAC & Australia, Digital Solutions, TELUS Digital, said the programme builds on the company's efforts to improve the school environment while extending support to students’ digital experiences.

“Safe classrooms matter, and so does a safe experience online. Bringing TELUS Wise to India lets our team members share what they know about digital safety directly with students, and it builds on the work we’ve done to improve the school itself,” Uniyal said.

TELUS Days of Giving brings TELUS Digital team members together to volunteer in the communities where they live and work. The programme reflects the company’s global philosophy, “We give where we live.”

Iftikar Ahmed, Vice President of Operations, TELUS Digital India, said the programme offers team members an opportunity to see the results of their volunteering efforts.

“TELUS Days of Giving are most rewarding when our team members can see what they’ve accomplished by the end of the day. At Shri Gandhi Inter College, the school is now better equipped to cultivate student success, and we hope it’s the start of a longer relationship with the school and its community,” Ahmed said.
